Frequently Asked Questions
What will the weather be like?
It depends on altitude, which is part of the adventure. Lima and the coast are mild; Cusco and Lake Titicaca are around 15–20°C by day and close to freezing at night; the Amazon is warm and humid at 25–32°C; Rio is 22–30°C. The best season is April to October, the dry season in the Andes. Pack layers.
Do Indian passport holders need a visa? What if I already have a US, UK or Schengen visa?
For Peru, if you hold a valid US, UK, Schengen, Canadian or Australian visa or residence permit, you can generally visit visa-free; otherwise a Peruvian visa is needed. Brazil requires a visa. The Argentine side of Iguazu has its own entry requirement, and holders of a valid US visa can use Argentina's simplified electronic authorisation. We confirm every requirement after booking, and visa fees are included.
Is airfare included? What does the price include?
International airfare is not included, but all six flights within South America are. The price includes: hotels and a rainforest lodge; meals as listed in the itinerary; visa fees, transfers, excursions and entrance fees, including Machu Picchu; travel insurance up to age 70. GST (5%) and TCS are extra.
How much walking is involved?
Moderate but very manageable: 4–8 km a day. Altitude is the only real challenge, and the route is built for it. The first night in the Andes is in the lower Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu is reached by train and bus, and the Amazon walks are guided and gentle.
How big is the group?
Between 6 and 10 travellers. It's our smallest group size, which makes six flights run smoothly.
Can I join as a solo traveller?
Absolutely. We can try to match you with a same-gender room-share. If you'd prefer a room to yourself, the single supplement is USD 980.
Is travel insurance included?
Yes, for travellers up to age 70. If you are older, we help you arrange separate cover.
Can you cater for vegetarian or Jain food?
Yes. Peru in particular has excellent vegetarian food. Tell us your needs when you book and we brief our hotels, the lodge and our restaurant partners.
Fitness Level
Moderate. Walking at altitude in Cusco/Machu Picchu requires reasonable fitness. Amazon excursions involve jungle walks on uneven terrain. City days are easy.
Weather Notes
Apr–Oct: dry season in Peru (15–22°C in Cusco, warm in Amazon). Rio: 20–28°C year-round. Pack layers for altitude and light clothes for coast.
